Habijax Homeowners Plead For HelpFamilies who live in Fairway Oaks believe they are living in homes that are dangerous. On its website, Habijax claims that it is the most successful Habitat For Humanity affiliate in the U.S. The agency has built more than 1,400 homes on the First Coast.But in one neighborhood there is a growing concern their Habijax homes have building problems and are making them ill. "I'm afraid that this is not safe," said Lisa Johnson. Johnson owns a home that she claims has mold and mildew in several places throughout the house. She admits Habijax made some repairs. She also describes it as falling short. "It seems like every night I have to sleep with an air purifier beside my bed so I can breath," Johnson said. Of nearly 85 homes in Fairway Oaks, Habijax said only a dozen have reported building issues. The agency promises it goes to great lengths to help homeowners. "It is our belief that we want to help our homeowners become successful as homeowners. And so we will go normally a bit further than a for-profit builder," said Judy Hall, Director of Development at Habijax.
